— FORTVILLE — Lois E. DeLong, 88, Fortville, died June 24, 2010, at Rawlins House, Pendleton, after an extended illness.

She was born Nov. 9, 1921, in Summitville, the daughter of John Crull and Goldie (Worth) Crull, and resided in Summitville most of her lifetime, moving to Fortville in 1963.

Lois was a graduate of Summitville High School, Class of 1938. Her late husband, James DeLong, was both Summitville Town Marshall and Fortville Chief of Police. She worked as a radio dispatcher and a police matron beside her husband. Lois was a giving person and dedicated herself to the care and nurture of children from “toddlers to teens.”

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy (Matt) Strickland of Fortville; three grandchildren, Marcy (Duane) Russ of Fishers, Mary (Jay) Kelley of Kingston Springs, Tenn., and Jake Strickland of Columbia, Mo.; four great-grandchildren, Tyler Russ, Jordan Russ, Olivia Russ and Macallister Kelley; sister, Joan Pyle of Summitville; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James DeLong in 1983; three brothers, Eugene Crull, Don Crull and Phill Crull; and a sister, Maxine Thurston.

Family and friends are invited to a graveside service on Monday at 3:15 p.m. at Vinson Memorial Cemetery, Summitville, with Pastor Gary McCaslin officiating.

Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday at Owens-Noffze Funeral Home, 1009 W. Walnut St., Summitville, prior to the graveside service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lois DeLong Memorial Fund through the funeral home.
