Biography

Name

The family was not actually called Crépon. But the usual processes of creative genealogy has given Gunnor a made-up father with his son's name Herfast and the surname of his grandson Osbern de Crépon.

Birth

Estimated date based on his being purportedly the father of Gunnor de Crépon.

This family is presumably of Viking origin[1], and has been stated as from Denmark or possibly Sweden.

Issue

The following are siblings or half/step siblings:
  1. Avelina
  2. Gunnora
  3. Herfast
  4. Senfrie
  5. Duvelina
  6. Wewa

Research Notes

The problem we have here is that we don't know Gunnor's parents, but we do know her brothers and sisters, and the connection is significant. But they could be half-sibs, and if so, we don't know which parent they share.

In the Battle Abbey Roll, with some accounts of the Norman lineages by Battle Abbey; Cleveland, Catherine Lucy Wilhelmina Powlett, Duchess of, 1819-1901

The Dutches says the following on pages 120 - 121.

Describing in relation to the Giffard family That Walter, Berenenger and Osberne 'were the sons of Osberne Baron of Bolbec who descend from Aveline , one of the sisters of Gunnor Duchess of Normandy, and thus the kinsmen of their sovereign 'both owing a common ancestor in the forester of Equiqueville the father of Gunnor and her sisters

Given the fact that Sainsfrida (Senfrie) is said to have had a relationship with a Touroude, Forestier dé Saint Vaast d'Equiqueville and the union provided a daughter Josceline whom went onto marrying Roger de Montgomerie.

Crepon-85 and Crépon-77 appear to represent the same person because: Crepon-85 appears to be a possible duplicate of the father of Gunnora of Normandy and her siblings. Research indicates that the father's name is unknown and should be merged with Crepon-77. At some point the profile also needs to be disconnected from Harald of Denmark, there is no evidence he is their father or grandfather.

Crépon-86 and Crépon-77 appear to represent the same person because: Herbastus de Crepon appears to be the name of father of Gunnora, based on having same name as his son. Research indicates that his name is unknown and should be merged with Crepon-77

Crépon-86 and Crepon-85 are not ready to be merged because: If these profiles are meant to be the father of Gunnora, Countess of Normandy, then it is better to merge them with Crepon-77

Crépon-86 and Crepon-85 appear to represent the same person because: Not sure who this profile is supposed to been for, could it be merged into Crépon-86 which don't have much info either?

Somebody seems to have deleted the entire bio, in which there was a note that Herfast should NOT have parents.

Please provide references for the parents of Herfast. I haven't located any. If not, please detach these parents. Thanks.
