Elizabeth was the fourth child of Robert Culbert and Margaret Downey.[1] She and her eight siblings were raised on a farm in Simcoe County, Ontario.[2]
In 1884, Elizabeth married Thomas H. Downey, [3]and they had a daughter, Elizabeth Ethel Downey, in Barrie, Ontario,[4] and a son, Robert John Fletcher Downey.[5]
