Biography

John Latimer Culver was born on December 26, 1829 in Hancock County, Georgia. He was the son of Hardy Culver and Ann Latimer. He married Mary Lewis Cheely on November 12, 1850 in Hancock County.[1]

His Civil War service began on July 15, 1861 when he enlisted in Company K, 15th Regiment Georgia Infantry with his brothers. He was promoted to Captain on November 1, 1861.

After the war, John was a successful planter and was also involved in politics. He was president of the Democratic party organization in Hancock County, and also served as Mayor of Culverton.[2]
