Biography
Mary Ellen Cummings lived with her family in Muskingum County, Ohio, until 1861, when the family moved to Jasper County, Iowa. She was married to John Perry Elston, a veteran of the Civil War, on September 3, 1863. In 1870 John and Mary and their children moved to Saline County, Nebraska, where they took up a homestead and joined the Methodist Episcopal Church.
