Biography

Vincent was born about 1531 (estimated from coming-of-age in 1552).

At this time the Cursons owned the manor at Addington, Buckinghamshire (to be sold in later years to John Busby), as well as part of Waterperry, Oxfordshire.[1]

Vincent married Elizabeth, daughter of Sir Roger Corbet of Morton Corbett in Shropshire[2], and consolidated the family's presence in Waterperry.

In earlier times the Waterperry estate had been divided into two parts. One part was already in Curson hands, purchased in 1523 by Vincent's grandfather Walter, but the other part was being neglected by its owner, George Tyrrell, and although it was to be purchased by Vincent in 1562, re-unifying the estate, it appears that Vincent's family had already taken advantage of the laxity: "The Cursons, who were evidently now living at Waterperry, seem to have encroached on the Tyrrells' rights there" resulting in Vincent and Agnes being 'at law' with the Tyrrells[3].

He passed away in 1580[4]. In Waterperry church "There are ledger stones to ....., (3) Vincent Curson (buried 1580), great-grandfather to Sir Thomas Curson (buried 1682/3), with the arms of Curson impaling those of the Borough of Leicester."[3]

His surviving children were Francis (sonne & heire), Christopher, Anne, and Phillipa [or Phillis][2].

Vincent was succeeded by his son, Francis Curzon (d. 1610), whose widow, Anne Curzon, was a recusant and heavily fined.

In 1628, Anne Curzon's son, Sir John Curzon, was in possession of the manor which he alienated to Robert Busby (d. Addington 1652).[5]
