Biography

Sarah Cushinan was born in 1863 in Randalstown, county Antrim, Ireland. Sarah Cushnan was baptized on August 30, 1863 at their local parish in Drumaul, county Antrim, Ireland. Her parents were named as James Cushnan and Cath Liddy. Hannah and Henry Cushnan were her sponsors (or Godparents). They lived in Randalstown. [1]

She married Henry McCormick on 5 May 1889 at their local parish in Randalstown, Drummaul, County Antrim, Ireland. [2] Together they had 8 children.

  1. Patrick McCormick (1890–1894)
  2. Henry McCormick (1891– )
  3. John McCormick (1893– )
  4. Martha McCormick (1895– )
  5. Cathrine McCormick (1897– )
  6. Hugh McCormick (1899–1979)
  7. James Patrick McCormick (1901–1963)
  8. Annie McCormick (1904– )

In 1901, according to the Ireland census, she was living with her husband and five children at their home in Portlee, Cargin, county Antrim, Ireland. [3]

Her husband Henry died from gastritis on 26 Jan 1913 at their home on Pinkerton Street in Belfast. Her sister Margaret was the informant and misreported his age as only 38 years old (instead of 46). [5] Regardless, they were both quite young. It's possible she remarried later.

Research Notes

  • Removed "Turtle" as another last name as there are currently no source documents to support another last name
  • While there was a Sarah McCormick who married a Samuel Turtle in Ireland, the marriage was in 1877. Far too early to have been her record
  • Searched for marriages of a widow with the name Sarah McCormick after 1913 with no results on (https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/) on 09 Jun 2021
  • It's possible she died in 1943 if she didn't remarry. There is a burial plot at the Belfast City Cemetery on 16 Oct 1943 for a 78 year old Sarah McCormick who lived at 14 Tennyson Street in Belfast. Death record from GRO [6]
