Biography
Emma (Cushenberry) Hughes is a part of US Black heritage.
Emily Emma Cushenberry (Quisenberry?) was born about 1837 in Kentucky.[1][2]
She married James Hughes in May 1850, although it was recorded in Clark County, Indiana in January 1871. Their marriage record notes, "Persons of color were married according to the manner of slaves in Kentucky in May 1850 so they say."[3]
Emily died 10 August 1896 in Charlestown, Clark County, Indiana.[4] She is buried at Charlestown Cemetery.[2]
