Birth

LTCol James Frederick Cutter was born on 25 August 1914 in West Hatfield, Hampshire, Massachusetts, United States to William R. Cutter and Mary B. Dickinson.

Education

James attended Mt. Hermon School in Mt. Hermon, Northfield, Massachusetts from 1931 through 1933. He was a record holding swimmer in 1931, 1932, 1933, an honor list scholar, played football 1931 and 1932, hockey in 1931, tennis in 1931 and 1932. He majored in mathematics and history, played football, swimming, Kappa Sigma

He then attended Massachusetts Agricultural College in Amherst, Hampshire, Massachusetts. He majored in mathematics and history, played football, swimming, Kappa Sigma. In years 3 and 4 he was advanced military and President of Kappa Sigma.

Marriage and Family

James married Muriel Elizabeth Cain about 1938.

Children of the Cutter-Cain Marriage

  1. James Dickinson Cutter born 23 November 1940 in Fort Knox, Hardin, Kentucky, United States. He married Virginia Ann Boyer, daughter of Charles R. Boyer and Helen Elizabeth Sevey, on 13 January 1962 in Wake County, North Carolina.[1] James died on 26 September 2015.
  2. LT William Scott Cutter born 5 April 1943. He died on 3 December 1967 in South Vietnam.
  3. Robert Grant Cutter born 8 February 1945 in Lynn, Essex, Massachusetts, United States. He married Carol A. Unknown (born 1945). Robert died on 26 December 1998 in Topeka, Shawnee, Kansas, United States.
  4. Kristen Cutter born 14 January 1952.

Military Service

He enlisted in the United States Army on 12 August 1940. He and Muriel traveled the world with his service. There's a record of the family, with the exception of James Dickinson Cutter, going to England because he was sent as the military attache to London and arriving on 29 March 1959 in Southampton.

There are also records showing that he spent a great deal of time in Germany later in his career.

Later Life

Retirement from the United States Army

LTCol Cutter retired on 31 July 1965.

Later Occupation

He was the Oklahoma State University swim coach until his death. James had held many records for swimming in his youth.

Death and Burial

James died on 9 October 1996 in Tulsa, Tulsa, Oklahoma, United States at the age of 81. He was buried in the Sunset Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum, Stillwater, Payne, Oklahoma. Find A Grave: Memorial #77997298
