Sarah Cutter's background is given in full detail in the book "History of the Cutter Family of New England" by Dr. Benjamin Cutter, published in 1871. At the time the book was published, Sarah was living with her son Manning Knapp in Hackensack, New Jersey. Catherine Knapp's obituary indicated Sarah (Cutter) Knapp died at age 92.

Sarah (Cutter) Knapp is buried in Old Newton Burial Ground in Newton, Sussex County, New Jersey. The stone says "wife of William Knapp."
