Susan[1] or Susanna, Susannah Dabney

Birth: unknown date, Hanover County[2] (Hanover formed from New Kent in 1720-21),[3] Virginia
Death: unknown


Origin

According to an article on the Strother family in the Register of Kentucky State Historical Society, "Susan" Dabney was the daughter of John Dabney and "an English lady," Sarah Jennings.[1]

In the book Marriages of some Virginia residents, 1607-1800, compiled and published by Dorothy Ford Wulfeck, 1897- (Main Author) Naugatuck, Connecticut : D.F. Wulfeck, 1961-1967 Vol. 6, page 268, the author who did exhaustive research on church records, bibles and other documents, comes to the conclusion that she was born around 1698 and was the daughter of John Dabney and "an English lady," Sarah Jennings.

Susannah (Dabney) Strother was prob. born aft. 1698 and died prob. aft. 1752.[2]

According to Find a Grave (without citations), Susan was a daughter of George and Elizabeth (Anderson) Dabney.[2]

Per all three IGI files on Family search, for Susannah born in 1792, her parents were George and Elizabeth (Anderson) Dabney[4]

Her birth is in King and Queen County area that later became King William County.

Family

Susan married to Francis Strother.[1] According to Find a Grave (without citations), they married in 1720, at Culpepper County, Virginia.[2]

Note: Culpeper formed from Orange in 1749, and Orange formed from Spotsylvania in 1734, and Spotsylvania formed from Essex, King & Queen, and King William in 1720-21.[3] Susan and Francis' son, William, was called, "of St. Mark's," or "of Orange."[1]

The parents of Susannah Dabney Strother were John Dabney of New Kent and Sarah Jennings. This is per Genealogies of Virginia From Tyler's Quarterly Historical and Genealogical Magazine, Vol. III., p. 380, and Vol. IV., pp. 474-476 (1981).

Hi Nancy, Can you provide the sources it uses to determine this information? We have a lot of "sources" and "family histories" listed on this profile that suggest different sets of parents. What we are looking for is actual records that would prove the parents.

One of the sources are from the Colonial Families of the United States, page 493 naming John Dabney as her Father. Apparently it is found in a few magazines also that I listed above. I do not know their source, all I know is the information they wrote.
