Samuel Doggett was the son of Thomas and Elizabeth (Foster) Doggett. He was born in Weymouth, Suffolk, Massachusetts Bay Colony in about 1652.[1] No actual birth record seems to exist for him; his birth year is given in the Doggett-Daggett family cited here. His mother died about 1652, probably as a complication of Samuel's birth. His father remarried in 1654, in Marshfield, Plymouth Colony, where Samuel's family moved to about this time.
Samuel married, first, Mary Rogers, daughter of John and Elizabeth (Unknown) Rogers, on 24 January (inferred to be 1682/3 based on birth date of first child), in Marshfield. The Marshfield record spells their names Samuel "Dogged" and Mary "Roggers".[2][3][4]
Samuel and Mary had children, all born in Marshfield:[2][1]
The birth of the first Samuel is recorded in Marshfield records, but not his death or the birth of the second Samuel. The birth of the second Samuel is only given in the Doggett-Daggett family cited herein. It is unclear what the source records for the death of the first Samuel and the birth of the second Samuel were. The early Marshfield records are in poor condition, so it is quite possible that the missing records are no longer extant.
Samuel's first wife Mary died on 15 April 1690, in Marshfield.[2]
Samuel married, second, Bathsheba Holmes, daughter of Abraham and Elizabeth (Arnold) Holmes on 21 June 1691, in Marshfield.[3][1] They had children:[2]
Samuel died in Marshfield. on 15 September 1725.[2][1] He is buried at the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Marshfield.[5]
His will is dated 13 January 1724 in Marshfield and proved on 14 October 1725 in Plymouth County. He mentions his wife Bathsheba, and his children, Samuel, John, Ebenezer, Isaac, Seth, Mary White, Bathsheba Kent, Elizabeth, Lydia, and Abigail. [6]
His inventory was taken on 5 November 1725, in Marshfield.[7]
