DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

Mother of John: A Geography and History of Digby, and the NEHGS newspaper article "New Englanders in Nova Scotia" both claim that Rebecca Hitchcock was his mother. Also, the age on his grave makes his dob 1774 which would be after the death of Druscilla. Most Ancestry trees show Druscilla as his mother. The Beekman Patent also shows Druscilla as his mother but does not list his dob and indicates he may have died in the Pawling area in 1831 which is not correct. We should consider listing Rebecca Hitchcock as the mother, and try to confirm with genetic evidences

Hi Chris:

We have just merged John Dakin-531 into Dakin-47. Unfortunately things are quite a mess. As you are Profile Manager you might want to try to sort things out. I will revisit in two weeks time and try to fix things up. If it was my goof please accept my apologies.

Dakin-531 and Dakin-37 appear to represent the same person because: Made a new person, but all the information I had is represented already in this older profile

Dakin-37 and Dakin-385 appear to represent the same person because: John was married to Mary and had a family in Nova Scotia before he married Abigail
