Biography

Cora E. Wright was born between 1870 and 1872 in New York, the daughter of Robert and Maria Wright. She married Julius Dakins. They had seven children. Cora died, aged 75, and was buried on 31 May 1945. She is buried with her husband and a daughter, Hazel E. DePoto at Fort Hill Cemetery, Auburn, Cayuga, New York.[1] [2]

Julius A. Dakins and Cora E. Wright are mentioned as parents in the the marriage record of their daughter, Bertha May Dakins, 21, who married Clair Wilbur Van Dusen, 38, on 9 May 1915 in Cayuga, New York [3]

In 1900, the Dakins family lived in their rented house in Sterling Township/Fair Haven village, Cayuga county, New York. All members of the household were born in New York, as were their parents. All could read and write, except for the youngest child. The household included Julius Dakins, 40, born December 1860, a farm laborer, who had been unemployed two months during the year; his wife of eleven years, Cora, b. March 1872, who had had three children; their three children, all in school: Hazel, 9, b. Aug. 1891; Betha, 7, b. May 1893; and Clifton, 5, b. Nov. 1895. [4]

In 1905, the Dakins family lived on Cayuga Street in Sterling, Cayuga County, New York. The household included Julius A. Dakins, 44, a day laborer; his wife Cora E., 33; their children the oldest three in school, Emma H., 13; Betha M., 12; Clifton A., 10; Dortha I., 3; and Charles W., 9 months. All were born in the United States.[5]

In 1920, the Dakins family lived in their rented house at 36 Aurelius Ave., Auburn, Cayuga, New York. All members of the household were born in New York, as were their parents. All could read and write. The household included Julius A. Dakins, 59, a laborer in a rope factory; his wife Cora E., 47; son Charles, 16, laborer in rope factory; and daughter Anna, 11, in school.[6]

In 1940, the Dakins lived at 139 Parsonage St., Fair Haven, Sterling town, Cayuga County, New York. They owned their home, valued at $600, and they had lived there for at least five years. Julius A. Dakins, 79, had completed the 8th grade, and had an outside income. His wife Cora E. was 70.[7]
