Margaret Dakins, daughter and heiress of Arthur Dakins of Linton, was baptised on 10 February 1571.
She had three husbands: (1) Walter Devereux, younger brother of the Earl of Essex (2) Thomas Sidney, brother of Philip Sidney (3) Sir Thomas Hoby in 1595.
She was the earliest British woman who wrote a diary that has survived.[1]
She and her husband were largely responsible for a restoration of Hackness Church, Yorkshire, where she was buried.
