Biography

Beatrice Earle Dalrymple was born in 1864 at St. Vincent, West Indies. She was the fourth daughter of Alexander Dalrymple and Fanny Hammond Ponsonby.

The following notice was published in the Morning Post dated 10 September 1884, page 5:

We are authorised to announced that a marriage has been arranged, and will take place in October, between Captain Arthur A. W. B. Bright-Smith, of the 3d King's Hussars, the eldest son of the late Rev. G. A. Bright- Smith, formerly vicar of Hutton's Ambro, Yorkshire, and Miss Beatrice Dalrymple, fourth daughter of Mr. Alexander Dalrymple, of St. Vincent, West Indies.[1]

She and Arthur Augustus Whitelock Bright Smith were married on 28 October 1884[2]:

Bright-Smith—Dalrymple: Oct. 28, at St. Mary Magdalene's, Paddington, Captain A. W. B. Bright-Smith, the 3rd (King's Own) Hussars, the eldest son of the late Rev. G. A. Bright-Smith, M.A., to Beatrice Earle, the fourth daughter of Alexander Dalrymple.[3]

They had four children (two of whom died young).

In the 1891 England Census Beatrice E Brightsmith (aged 26) was living with her husband Captain Arthur A W B Brightsmith (38) and their children Beatrice Brightsmith (4), Sybil Brightsmith (2) and Arthur Brightsmith (2 months) at Church Walk, Broadwater, Sussex, England. Also in the household were servants Alice Oates (30), Sarah Broadley (22), Martha Oates (19) and Florence L Jordan (14).

Sadly Beatrice passed away in 1892 at the age of 27[4].

Reading Mercury 18 June 1892, page 5:
DEATHS.
BRIGHT-SMITH.—On the 7th inst., at East Court, Cosham, Hants, the beloved wife of Capt. Arthur W. Bright-Smith, late 3rd Hussars, aged 28.[5]
