Biography

William Dalton enlisted for service in the American Revolution at Albemarle County, Virginia in 1775. He was discharged in 1778. He became a volunteer in Burke County, North Carolina and fought at the battle of Ninety-Six. He received a soldiers pension for his service on pension number #S8295.

Fought in the American Revolution in Burke County, N.C., against British and Indian forces. He fought under Capt. Joseph McDowell and was at the Battle at Ninety-Six, S.C. He received a pension for his Revolutionary War service as a private in the Virginia militia.

In 1789, he moved from the Bill's Creek area along the Broad River to land he purchased on White Oak Mountain on the Green Creek, southside of White Oak Creek. He sold this the next year and bought land on Mountain Creek on both sides of Maple Creek.

Toward the end of his life, he lived with his daughter, Ann, who had married James M. Murphy. Next door was his daughter, Susan, and her husband, Braxton Langford.

In February 1848, when he was 94, "a jury of good and lawful men" were ordered "to examine into the soundness of mind of William Dalton whether he is capable of transacting his own affairs" and they found that he was non compos mentis. The court appointed E.G. Foster guardian to handle "the funds he received from the government."

Bond in the amount of $200 was posted by Braxton Lankford, his son-in-law, and Thomas Jefferson, one of the Justices of the Court. On 1 July, 1852, Braxton Lankford filed an administrator's bond in the amount of $50 for William in Henderson County, North Carolina.

Dalton-3590 and Dalton-1531 do not represent the same person because: parents not the same, siblings not the same, birth date not the same
Dalton-3590 and Dalton-1531 appear to represent the same person because: Possible duplicate with the biography, Source and wife on Dalton-3590 agreeing with the details on Dalton-1531 .

If however they are separate people then please remove the marriage from Dalton-3590 to Johnson-13651 as she wouldn't likely marry her nephew if the parents on Dalton-3590 are correct.
