Thomas Wilkey Dalton was born on 6 Jul 1833 in Rutherford, North Carolina, United States, son of Zachariah Dalton (~1795 - ~1872).
His sister was Harriet M (Dalton) Carter (1838 - 1876).
Thomas married Lydia Barnes (1836 - 1910) Their children were:
- James Alexander Dalton (1866 - 1938)
- Johnson Thomas Dalton (1871 - 1929)
- Joseph Garfield Dalton (1880 - 1950).
