baptised 7 Nov 1880 Welney Chapel
William Henry Clayton married Constance Dalton of Cope's Hill, Welney in 1908. They lived at Welney House on Welney House Farm. She bore him four children, and died in 1917. Her funeral (according to Nana Trower {Gladys Trower née Knighton b.1904}) took place on a cold, rainy day. Billy then proposed to Connie's sister Maude Dalton who vehemently rejected him with the words "Not even for the children!" Shortly after, he married her sister Gertrude Dalton (born about 1875). They retired to a house by the sea at Hunstanton, Norfolk, England. His father was Robert Clayton, who started out as a farm labourer, worked hard, did well for himself, and left his two sons, Billy and Walt a decent sized farm each.
