A handwritten note from descendant Sarah (Dalzell) Stitt explains her father's lineage.[1]
My father's name was William Dalzell. My father's father's name was Stewart Dalzell born in Ballyward (Co. Down Ireland). His father's name was Robert Dalzell, which would be my great, great, grandfather.
My father's mother's name was Mary Massey, and her mother's name was Carson, but I do not know her first name.
Stewart's wife was a widow when she died in 1878[2]. It's possible he died prior to the time of Griffith's Valuation in 1863 as Mary's name is given as the occupant and lease holder of the farm in Ballymackilreiny.[3]
