Alexander Spotswood Dandridge was born August 1, 1753 , son of Capt Nathaniel Dandridge and Dorothea Spotswood. He married Ann Stephen.
They had a son Alexander Spotswood Dandridge Jr who married Sarah Pendleton.
After he married Ann, he then left Hanover County and settled on a large plantation called the "Bower," in what is now Jefferson County, in the Valley of Virginia, about eight miles from Martinsburg. Here he died in April, 1785, leaving his young widow with an only child, Adam Stephen Dandridge, but little over two years of age.[1]

Captain Dandridge is buried in Martinsburg. His will was probated in 1785.
