Catherine Daniel was born about 1785 in the Cherokee Nation (East). Her parents were Marmaduke Daniel and Nanny Still. She married Ellis Buffington about 1809. They were the parents of James, Ezekiel, and Mary. [1] Catherine's death date and location are unknown. By 1820 Ellis was married to Lydia Wright Snow and they emigrated to Indian Territory in 1834. [2]
Emmet Starr lists an additional child, Ruth, but Ruth stated in 1837 that her mother was a white woman.
Catherine does not appear as Catherine Daniel or Catherine Buffington on the Emigration Rolls, the 1835 Cherokee Census, or the 1851 Drennan, Old Settler, or Chapman/Siler Rolls.
There is no source for the 1867 death date listed in James Hicks "Cherokee Lineages."
