Biography

Deterich Danner, a member of the Lutheran Church at Thames Creek [now Toms Creek], Emmitsburg, Maryland, was naturalized in Frederick County in 1761.[1] During the colonial period, a person of non-British origins could be naturalized after residing for seven years in a colony; thus, he must have lived in Maryland at least as early as 1754. On 23 April 1756, he purchased from James Brooke 103 acres called The Addition to Brooke's Discovery on the Rich Lands.[2] On 14 June, he paid 13 pounds 12 shillings for a still and vessels from Arthur Henderson.

In Oct 1764, Dieter bought 400 acres of his brother-in-law, Michael Hauser, while visiting in North Carolina.[3]

On 13 October 1768, one month before his fortieth birthday, Teeter wrote a will naming his wife Barbaron and these minor children: Margaret, Mary, David, Catherine, Jacob, Shusannah, and Esther. He signed the Will "Teeter Danner". He died within a very few days, and his will was entered for probate on 17 October.[4]

Dieterich "Teter" Danner died on 16 October 1768 and was laid to rest at Toms Creek Lutheran Cemetery, formerly Elias Lutheran Church, in Emmitsburg.[5] The inscription on his gravestone is now completely eroded but was transcribed at one time as saying, "Dietrich Danner b. 19 Nov 1728 in Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany d. 16 Oct 1768 in Emmitsburg, Frederick Co., MD".

I have approved the merge of Danner-1379 with this profile. When the merge is completed, Peter should be removed from the preferred name and nickname. None of the original sources cited on Danner-1379 - or anything I've seen except this profile - show the name Peter. To the contrary, he appears in church records as Dieter and Deterich Danner and signed his will "Teeter Danner". I suspect the writer/compiler of "Owen County Cousins" misread Teeter as Peter.
