Robert Darcy, 3rd Earl of Holderness was the son of John Darcy and his wife, Bridget Sutton.

He married on the 26th of May 1715 Lady Frederica Schomberg, suo jure Countess of Mertola and Grandee of Portugal, eldest surviving daughter and co-heiress of Meinhardt Schomberg , 3rd Duke of Schomberg and Raugravine Karoline von der Pfalz, a daughter of Charles I Louis, Elector Palatine.
