In the 1850 Census, in Buckfield, Oxford, Mainw, John is listed in the household of his son, Samuel[1]
He is also listed with son John in 1860 Census, age 92.[2]
John Darling, was born in March of 1767 according to an entry he himself wrote in a family bible. His parentage is unknown. An order to quit found at the New England Genealogical Society in Boston says that he came from Boston. He operated a one mast schooner named the Nancy from Boston to Wellfleet in the late 1790s. In 1804 he sold the north side of Griffith Island at Wellfleet for $20 according to a deed in Barnstable. This deed also shows that he originated in Boston, however, extensive research has not revealed any record of him there.
According to records in the Wellfleet town hall, he and Temperance had several children. All but two of them Samuel and John, died in an epidemic.
John Darling was enumerated at Wellfleet in 1800.[3] In 1804 the Darlings, along with their two surviving sons moved to Jay in what was then Oxford County, Maine. It is now part of Franklin County. John was enumerated there 1810-1830. He is on the tax rolls up to 1848, but I do not have an exact date of death.
Their son, John was born August 8, 1800 in MA. He married Elizabeth Goding and they lived in Jay as well.
Temperance died abt. 1830 and John married a Ms. Murtch
The above information is from: Ginger Sicari
