Emily Darnell (whose full birth/baptismal name has yet to be substantiated) was born in May 1849 (i.e. the second quarter of 1849^[1] in the Hatfield's registration district of Hertfordshire^{[2] [3]}and baptized on 07 May 1849 in Digswell, Hertfordshire, England to parents William Darnell and Mary Ann (Cutts) Darnell.^[4]

Emily married Charles Dawes (1843-1914) on 29 Oct 1865 at St John the Baptist, Kentish Town, Camden, England.^[5][6]

In 1911 Emily (62, incorrectly shown as 65) and her husband, Charles Dawes (1843-1914) (69) had been married for 45 years, and were living on London Road, in Hertford Heath, with a 3 year-old grandson Joseph Dawes (parents not specified), and two boarders. Charles was working as a Wheelwright.^[6]

On 30 Mar 1851 William Darnell (1828-bef.1911) (22) and Mary Ann (Cutts) Darnell (1824-aft.1911) (25), their 2 year-old daughter, Emily, and Robert Cutts (22) (Mary's brother), were living in Welwyn Civil parish, Hertfordshire, England.^[7]
