Levi Isaac Darnell was born in Virginia in about 1783^[1] or 1785^[2]

NO PARENTS HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED.

Levi "Durnel" and Anna (Lundy) Darnell (abt.1784-bef.1884) (1784-?) married in 1807 in Virginia.^[2][3] [Are we sure that this marriage relates to him or is this a red herring?]

On 16 Jul 1810, Levi Darnell and Jane (Corneliius) Darnell (abt.1790-abt.1842) married in Greenup, Kentucky.^[2][4]

Son Harrison Darnell (abt.1815-1898) was born in 1815; Son Isaac Tower Darnell (abt.1817-abt.1893) was born in 1817.^[2]

In 1820 Levi Darnal (sic) (Darnell) was living in Elksburg, Lewis, Kentucky in a household of 8 white persons - 6 under 16, 2 over 25. 1 female between ages 10-15; 5 males under 10. 1 employed in agriculture. No names or relationships were important on that census.^[5]

Hannah Caroline Darnell (1821-1860) was born in 1821.^[2]

1830 Levi was still head of household in Lewis, Kentucky - household of 7 white persons- 2 were 20 thru 29, 1 female 15-19, 1 male 40-49; 2 males 10-14. 1 employed in agriculture. ^[6]

In 1840 his household consisted of 6 white people - 2 males 5-9, 1 male 50-29 (most likely Levi), 1 female under 5, 1 female 15-19, 1 female 40-49 (most likely his wife). 1 employed in agriculture. ^[7]

In 1850, Levi (surname spelled as Darnall) (67) was living in Lewis, Kentucky with Louisa Darnall (surname spelled as Darnall) (8)). No relationships provided.^[1]

The Global, Find a Grave Index shows Levi Isaac Darnell's wife as Jane and shows only one named child, Hannah Caroline Darnell (1821-1860) (with unsubstantiated mother). Jane's birth shows as 1790 in Virginia, death in Lewis County, KY. Hannah Caroline Hoover is shown with a birth date 14 Feb 1821 and a death date of 14 Jun 1860, cause of death consumption; living her entire life in Lewis County, KY. The marriage record for Ann Lundy show the groom's name as Levi Durnel. One other view of same record has his name indexed as "Dumel". ^[3]

Could that be a different man than what we have been led to believe? With the confusion and incompatability of the marriage dates and the date of birth on the children still in question ... if he had only 1 wife, all the "issues" fade away.

Wife, Ann Lundy: Possibly she is not his wife at all.

We need to develop a timeline for Ann and her family and map out locations. Did their lives have crossing paths geographically?

Only 1 record has been found matching both names on the same record ... this one. Who was Levi Durnel, who were his parents and siblings, where did he come from and where did he go beyond getting married in 1807. There is a story yet to be found.

NAME SEARCH: Needs to be done for Levi DUMEL and Levi DURNEL and Levi Isaac in a global category manner - what other records are there?

PLACE SEARCH: What other Darnall, Darnell, Dumel, Durnel named people are in Grayson County, Virginia (the location they supposedly married. I doubt that either just dropped out of the sky. Where does her family and he intersect before or after this 1 day marriage event? Need to connect the dots to make sense of this lone piece of info. Just one more concrete connection might open up who HIS family may have been.

There is a debacle over how many wives he had and who the biological mothers are of the children. IF Levi married Anne Lundy in 1807 in Grayson County, Virginia ... and ... married Jane Cornelius in 1810 in Greenup, KY, does it really make sense that Hannah Caroline born in 1821 is the daughter of Anne Lundy?

It is possible that Jane Cornelius was the mother of all of his children .... If no children of his were born before the 1810 marriage to Jane, she could be the mother of any child up through time of her death in 1842.

2. Isaac Tower Darnell (abt.1817-abt.1893)

4. Thomas Darnell ... I lost him but I think that was his name. Need to check for this child - was this the 5th child's name? If not found we can remove reference, but I am fairly sure I saw 5 children misplaced when collecting sources.

5. RE: Louisa Darnall (Age 8 in 1850 in Lewis, KY)

Was Jane Cornelius her biological mother? Since she died in 1842 and the 5th child appears to have been born in 1842 ... maybe Jane died at time of childbirth. Where is her death record? With whom was Louisa living from age 2-age 8? Where was she after the1850 census?

Could this Louisa be Louisa Darnell Cox (1840-1912)?

Louisa needs her own profile linked. I do not know if she has one or not.
