Biography

Sylvain Breau is on the Wall of Names at the Acadian Memorial in St. Martinville, Louisiana Plaque 2 Left. Listed with him is Isabelle Darois, his wife. ^[1]

Isabelle Darois, daughter of Jerome Darois and Marie Gareau was born in Acadie about 1698. She married Rene Trahan, son of Jean Trahan and Marie Boudrot 8 Nov 1717 at Saint Charles des Mines. ^[2] She bore 7 children, was widowed, remarried^[3], was imprisoned, immigrated to Louisiana where she and many others in the group died soon after being settled in the Attakapas Territory. Some of her children immigrated to Louisiana but two others were deported to France.

Isabelle died 10 October, 8 months after arrival in Louisiana and was buried soon after. ^[4]

   Text: Sylvain and his wife came to New Orleans, Louisiana in February 1765 with Joseph Broussard where in [5?] April 1765, he received a receipt for 1208 livres in ordonnances and 1130 livres 10 sols in billetes [receipts] in Canadian money (RECEIPTS April 1765). They then went on to Attakapas with Joseph Broussard. There on 10 October 1765, Isabelle Darois was buried (SM Ch.: Slave Funeral Register v. 1, #25; SM Ch.: v. 1, p.13-Hebert v. 1A p. 216) and two days later on 12 October 1765, Sylvain Breau was buried (SM Ch.: Slave Funeral Register v. 1, #24; SM Ch.: v. 1, p. 13-Hebert v. 1A p. 116).
