Marie Edesia Daspit was born on 27 September 1796 in Plattenville, Assumption, Louisiana, New Spain, a daughter of Pierre Daspit, dit St Amand (1755 - 1837) and Marie Anne Mayeux (1764 - 1802). [citation needed]

When Marie was 16 she married Jean Baptiste Neuville Cantrelle on 3 July 1813 in Assumption Parish, Louisiana, USA. Clearly this is wrong, as he was five years old in 1813. Perhaps she married his father, although he may have died as early as 1810 and was already married.

After two sets of twins and one single birth, Marie died on 14 August 1822 in Thibodaux, Louisiana, USA, aged 25.[citation needed]
