William was born in 1472. William was lord of the manor from 1478-1528. He was one of the first recorded trustees of Macclesfield Grammar School.[1] I t is possible that he was heavily involved in the final battle of the Wars of the Roses at Bosworth (22 Aug., 1485) and thereby instrumental in gaining the crown for Henry VII, who rewarded him with a pension of 20 marks per year payable for his lifetime.[2]
William appeared in 1524 'in a recovery..obtained of William Premer 2 messuage, and 80 acres in Bromhall(Plea Rolls, m. 12d.).' William Davenport had a 'writ of exemption in Dec., 1539 from serving juries &c. (Rec. Ro. 31 & 32 H. VIII.)', William wrote his will on 1 June, 1541. He passed away on 29 Oct., 1541.[3]Probate in 1542, Bramhall, Cheshire, England[4]His wife, Blanche Warburton and children William, John, Humphrey, Ellen, and Katherine are mentioned in his will, as well as his son-in-law Robert Hyde[5]
According to Dean, it was during this first William's tenure that Bramall may have been vandalized by a man named Randle Hassall, who destroyed all or part of nine houses and stole the timber. This gives credence to the theory that Bramall was rebuilt, replacing or partially replacing an older building[6].

Davenport-955 and Davenport-236 appear to represent the same person because: Both the father of Ellen Davenport who married Ralph Done and had a son John Done.
His name was William not John. John's dates are also not correct.
