Thomas was born in about 1836 in Penkridge, Staffordshire, England. He was the son of John Davies.^[1]

When Thomas was about 27 he married Jane Birch on 7 May 1863 in St Luke's Church, Parish of Cannock, Penkridge, Stafford, England. The couple had 11 children: George Davies, William Davies, Louisa Davies, Thomas Davies, Emilly Jane Davies, John Davies, Martha Davies, Arthur Davies, Sarah Davies, Lizzie Davies and Mary Davies.^[1][2]
