  • Marcia Thomas as accounted to me by my father and my grandmother.

1891 Wales Census

My great great uncle Henry was the brother of Margaret Davies, who was the mother of my grandmother Mable.

Although born in the welsh valleys Henry left as a young man. He spent some time in Australia and while there visited family that lived in Alice Hot springs. Apparently the family member had emigrated some years before and had married an Australian. He had a number of beautiful daughters who had long black hair.

Henry also visited the United States of America, where he worked in the Ford car factory.

Henry frequently visited Rhandir Villa and regaled the family with the tails of his adventures.

Apparently my grandmother believed Henry would leave her a good sum of money when he died. In hope of this she named my father Henry.

In his old age Henry lived alone in a house in South Wales. Unfortunately he became badly demented and had to be forcibly removed from the house and taken to an asylum, where he died. My father was present when the old man wad dragged out of the house. My father wad so upset that for a while he had a white streak running through his dark hair, which in later years disappeared. This morning rather strange since his mother also had a white streak which remained visible till the day she died.

And Uncle Henry .. left my grandmother nothing except a few nicknacks from his adventures. Amongst which included a box of old slides and a curious device made of polished wood that folded flat. When set up it was used to view the slides. When you looked through the lens the image on the slides appeared three dimensional.

Long after Uncle Henry died I saw this device and the accompanying slides. My grandmother gave it to my brother who then sold it.
