Biography

Charles Davies was the son of Isaac Davies and his wife Mary Hunt (aka Castle) he was born at Moonee Ponds Victoria in 1847 [1]

Charles lost one eye and by the time he died had poor sight in the other. For years he lived in Shepparton and collected bottles and rags for a living.

He died in Shepparton in 1917[2]

SHEPPARTON
On Thursday the body of Charles Edward Davies, aged 71 years, was found floating in a flooded pit in Mr E. Tuttle's brickyard, off Knight street, where two lads named Halpin were drowned last Easter. Davies, who had been missing for three weeks, was a marine collector and an old age pensioner. He was camped on the river banks at the time of the recent flood, and hastened to higher levels. It is surmised that he took refuge at night in a shed in the brickyard, and, when making his way to it, fell into the pit, which, however, is fenced.[3]

Research Notes

  • Possible wife

A Charles Edward and Catherine Daw married in Victoria in 1867[4] This is a different Charles Edward who died in 1912.

It seems likely that Charles Davies did not marry or have children
