Anchorage resident Nancy Ruth Wrocklage, 66, went home to be with her Lord on July 23, 2014 after a courageous fight with cancer.
Born on November 23, 1947, in Quincy, Mass, Nancy traveled with her Navy family throughout the states until the age of 16. She graduated from Old Dominion College in Norfolk, Virginia, with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and an Associate's Degree in Veterinary Science Technology from State University in New York.
Nancy worked with the Guiding Eyes for the Blind in New York from 1969 to 1978. She became one of the first women to be a guide dog trainer in the United States. Her love of dogs filled her life with great joy.
Nancy left the Guiding Eyes for the Blind in New York to work with Dr. James Scott in his veterinary practice after arriving in Anchorage, AK. Apart from her veterinary work, she joined the Library Resources Department for the Anchorage School District. Nancy retired in 2003.
Nancy was involved with the bell and vocal choir at Trinity Presbyterian Church, served at Beans Cafe, and volunteered at Friends of Pets and Habitat for Humanity. She was an artist, writer, sister, friend, birder, knitter, and animal lover.
Nancy is survived by her brothers John and Alan of Arizona, Peter and Christopher of Virginia, and her sister Judy Blooms of Virginia; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
