Mary was born in 1782 in Shrewsbury in the New Jersey colony , the daughter of William 'Greenbrier Billy' Davis and Elizabeth Johnston. In the late 1780s, early 1790s, her family joined the move west by a number of family in the Seventh Day Baptist church community, settling in Harrison County in northwestern Virginia. In 1798, Mary married Jonathan Fitz Randolph, a member of one of founding families of the village of Salem and a veteran of the Indian wars in Ohio. They remained in the Salem area to farm and bring up ten children together. They were active in the New Salem Seventh Day Baptist church over the years. Jonathan passed away in 1853. Mary continued to live in Salem with her son William's family. She died there in 1862 and was buried with her husband probably in the Seventh Day Baptist cemetery in Salem.
