Theodore was born in 1839. Theodore Davis ... He passed away in 1890. [1]
I have hundreds of pages of information about TRD1839 as well as his Civil War Sword (he was the Captain of Company B of the Fifteenth Connecticut Volunteers) and all the original correspondence about this very famous sword. I also have quite a bit of his furniture including a very interesting locking chest of drawers with a secret desk which he used while working for the post-war reconstruction in Alabama. When I have more time I will try to add this, as well as about 100 descendants.
Theodore's father died when he was four years old but his mother was quite well-to-do. He raised Company B on July 15, 1862 and they duly chose him as Captain on August 1. His friend E. N Whittlesey gave him his sword. He had a very active service during the Civil War but was wounded and captured on March 6, 1865, being forced to drop his sword. After the war a former slave found it and had a literate person put an advertisement in "The National Tribune". Theodore recovered the sword. I have the original advertisement and all the original correspondence.
Theodore's birth and marriage are recorded in the 1844 quarto Bible which belonged to her parents and which is now in my possession (2014, Palmer-3058).
