Biography

Note: If the ancestry in the History of Chester County is correct, than this profile is for a John Davis and not a Jesse Davis.

John Davis was born about 1660 in what was called Sylvania at that time. Twenty-one years later it was petitioned to change the land to the Province of Pennsylvania.

Geographical Changes

William Penn founded the Province of Pennsylvania in 1681 as a British North American colony on land he had been granted by King Charles II of England, as repayment of a debt to Penn's father. Penn called the area Sylvania (Latin for woods), which Charles changed to Pennsylvania in honor of the elder Penn. This province eventually became the current state of Pennsylvania.

Research Notes

According to the History of Chester County, Pennsylvania, where this man was purportedly from; the father of Abraham was a John Davis of Thornbury. John had purchased the eastern half of a piece of property in 1714. By a Will dated 3 Mar 1719 he divided it between his three sons: Daniel, Abraham, and John.[2]

At the time I took over this profile of John Davis. I had been sent a tree, stating that he was a member of my family. Further research has proved that he is not related to my family at all. I have added his proper family here. Margaret Silva
