John J. Davis was born in Newton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. He is the son of Bruyn Hasbrouck Davis and Mary Whiting Stickney. He was an attorney, and later, he was an associate justice of the U. S. Court of Claims. John Davis married Sarah Helen Frelinghuysen. He died in Washington, D. C. He is interred in Rock Creek Cemetery, Washington, D. C.
