Biography

This profile is part of the Davis Name Study.

William Davis was born in 1783 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.[1] His parents are unknown.

Bucks County tax records list William Davis of Upper Makefield Township from 1804 to 1807.[2]

He married Susanna Dracord (surname sometimes written Dracket) on March 19, 1807, at the Presbyterian Church in Newtown, Bucks, County, Pennsylvania. Church marriage records identify them both as residents of Lower Makefield at the time.[3]

They had at least seven children between 1808 and 1825 — Rachel, Sarah Ann, Charles B., William, Garrett Brown, Oliver and John Burrough.

The family may have moved to Middleton Township by 1830. U.S. Census records list a William Davis there in 1830 and 1840. In the 1850 U.S. Census, a William Davis, a 67-year-old gatekeeper, and Susannah Davis, 64, were living in Moreland, Philadelphia County.

His death date is unknown. A 1949 family tree diagram by Norman C. Davis says he is buried at Buckingham Friends Cemetery. A Find a Grave memorial, ID 194903216, is a potential match: William Davis, born 1782 and died 17 January, 1859. (Further research needed.)

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:
