Biography

Birthday and death day based off of gravestone photo. [1] According to her gravestone she died in 1835 at 82, which means she was born in 1752/3. so in 1766 she was 13! and had Abner at 15. I think her grandchild/child, who had the stone made, didn't know how old she was. I am guessing she born about 1750 or when the stone was remade they guessed on 32 vs 35 for her death and got it wrong. Anyway it would make more sense if she was born in 1750 married at 16 with first kid at 18. Marriage & husband [2] Paul and Annah children [3] Abner, Phebe, Bradford, Anna, Cloe, Ambras, Mary, Paul, Davis

Research

At about the same time in Falmouth, Mass Bay, two marriages occurred of two different Anna Davis. I bet they got married at 17-23, so they were born 1743-1749. Anna Hammond gravestone says she was born in 1750-53.

1. Anna Davis married Jonathan Hatch in 1767. According to a tombstone in the East End Burying Ground - Lot A2-19 Anna Davis Hatch died Jan 7, 1829 at 81yrs 8mo. thus she was born about March, 1747. She is likely Anne, d. Samuel Davis (& Susannah Grew), bp. Mar. 30, 1746/7. I believe she had a sister Fear bp 1740. This Samuel was likely Samuell, s. Benjamin and Mary (Mercy), born Nov. 28, 1721. Some internet sites have her as Solomon & Thankful Davis child. But DNA show the 2nd Anna is their daughter.

2. Anna Davis that married Paul Hammond Feb. 27, 1766. DNA evidence indicates she was Solomon Davis and Thankful Weeks child with a baptism record of 1765 (born about 1752). Solomon & Thankful Davis did their baptism for Abner, Anna, Mercy, Silvannus, Temperance, & Thankful on about the same day from the records of Falmouth (May 30, 1762). ..so, their Anna was born between 1748-1762.

  • Anna named her Abner is the name of Anna Hammond's first born. But, she did not name her children Solomon or Thankful.
  • Paul's older sister Lydia Hammond married Jabez Weeks, who was the brother of Thankful Weeks Davis, so Anna Davis Uncle and brother-in-law.[6]. (Two of his siblings married Gifford cousins)
  • DNA matching with Trulines of Ancestry.com found descendant matches of Anna with Temperance (by her daughter (13cM) & her son (10cM)) and one with Hannah (8cM). Thus, it is very likely they are all sisters and daughters of Thankful & Solomon.
