On today's Wikitree information, I see that the marriage of William Davis b1725 and Elizabeth Isabelle (Shelton) Davis was edited. I have believed that they were married in Virginia, but have no record of that. The following information makes me think that it was possibly in Rowan County, North Carolina.

"Family Search" has Elizabeth Isabelle Shelton information and mentions that "she married Capt. William L. Davis in 1759, in Rowan, Bladen, North Carolina, British Colonial America."

They reference "North Carolina Marriage Collection, 1741- 2004"

The middle initial L bothers me as I have never found middle names in that family group.

Another possible mention of William Davis is from a History of this Davis family. There was a list of 1759 landowners found in the walls of a courthouse that was being remodeled. This was in Salisbury and the list contains a William Davis.

In September 1755 William Davis was fined for not attending military meeting in Frederick County, Virginia.

So did he leave Virginia with the military after that date, marry in North Carolina and return to Virginia where I feel his first five children were born.

My original information is from the Virginia angle, even though I know that after the death of William's father in 1772 he did migrate with his family to Rowan County, North Carolina.

Does anyone have added information that might solve this marriage mystery. Thank you so much Sue Davis-82334

There need to be some sources on the Rowan County NC Brothers Jacob, Henry, and William Davis as sons of William and Anna Walker Davis and you have none—also the birthplace of these brothers. William Davis 1772 Will only named sons William and Samuel and daughter Margaret. Why would he not name all his children? It appears he did. accept he and Anna are not the parents and move on are posted the sources that prove the other children

Great work on the Sources and Wills of these brothers.

Who do you feel are parents of these brothers who settled in North Carolina? I have not felt the fact that only three of the children of William and Elizabeth are mentioned in William's Will was a problem. I know that the others were married and out on their own and felt William had helped them earlier.

There are two different William and Elizabeth (Shelton) Davis marriages in Virginia at this time. Rev William (Davis-10157) and Elizabeth (Shelton--365). They did not leave Virginia and died in 1782 and 1784. Another large family but only a couple of children moved south.

I believe that Davis-8152 and Davis-25398 should possibly be merged. I do not believe that William and Ann (Walker) Davis had two sons by the name of John.
