Obituary in The Fentress News 19 Mar 1936 -- John D. Davis, born September 12, 1895, departed this life on March 17, 1936. Age 40 years, 6 months, and 5 days old. He professed faith in Christ in the fall of 1911, joined the Fairview Baptist Church, and later moved his membership to Cedar Grove. He was married to Miss Lillie May Duncan, January 27, 1924. He leaves a wife and five children, two sisters, Mrs. Clay Choate, Mrs. W. H. Sewell; four brothers, Isaac, Everett, Hollis, and Wilborn; and three half-brothers, Ben, Berry, and Allmorine, and a host of other relatives. He was a veteran of World War I. He was a kind and loving father and husband, a good neighbor, always willing to lend a helping hand to those who needed his help. Funeral services were conducted from the home in South Jamestown by Rev. W. F. Wright and Bro. C. B. Smith, Wednesday, March 18, at 2:00 p.m. Interment at Talyor Cemetery.
