Biography

Carol was born October 14, 1926. She was the daughter of James Davis and Vera Furneau.
In 1930 she was living in York Township, Steuben County, Indiana with her parents and all seven siblings, [1]
In 1940 she was living in Metz, York Township, Steuben County, Indiana with her parents and four of her siblings.[2]
Carol loved to play the piano and sing. The first song I remember hearing her play and sing was Mockin' Bird Hill, a Billboard pop hit on February 24, 1951. She also loved the old hymns. She walked over to our house one afternoon and mom played some of her favorites on the piano while the three of us sang. One I remember that she liked was "In the Garden" ~ Words & Music: C. Austin Miles, March 1912.[3] The last time I heard Carol sing was just a few years before her death. She had come to Freiman Square, Fort Wayne with a group of senior citizens. I was there with a group of developmentally delayed preschoolers. We had invited to perform a rhythm band selection at the annual arts festival. After our performance we sat down. Carol's group were next. They sang several numbers. Then Carol stood up to sing an a cappella solo. I don't remember what she sang, but her voice was strong and clear in that lovely setting of flowers and fountain. After they finished she came over to say she enjoyed our rhythm band. Then it was time to leave.
Carol faced a battle with cancer in her last years. She passed away in 1979 and was buried at Parker Cemetery, Fort Wayne, Allen Co., Indiana with her mother and father. She was a courageous and cheerful woman. I hope to see her when we "wake up in the morning." God bless you Carol.
