:Note: He is not the same John Davis of Acton Turville who was the father of several New England immigrants.
If this profile represents the John Davis who married Agnes Chandler in Frocester, Gloucester, England in 1577, then he was most likely born between 1547 and 1557.
It is commonly found on the internet that John Davis of Frocester married Agnes Chandler in 1577, and that this John Davis was identical with John Davis of Acton Turville. This is incorrect. There is no reason to think this is true and the 1577 marriage date is much to early for the two John Davis to be the same person.
John Davis married Agnes Chandler 24 October 1577 in Frocester, Gloucestershire, England.[1] They had one child Alice born at Frocester on 16 March 1577/8 [2] and then there are no further records there for this couple. Frocester is less than 20 miles from Acton Turville which made this a possibility; however, his first grandchild by his oldest James was not born until 1619 making his likely birth date in the 1590's, they had another son born in 1601 and a third who was underage in 1626. A marriage date of 1577 is too early to be the marriage of John Davis of Acton Turville. So, this Agnes Chandler did not marry John Davis of Acton Turville and was not possibly the mother of the New England immigrants.
Agnes Chandler married John Davis on 14 October 1577 in Frocester, Gloucestershire, England.[3]
