Book: Dowling Family of the South by R A Dowling 1959 p 08 "Young Jabez Lazarus was still single when he left his Salkehatchie birthplace. But during the short residence of his parents in Wayne County, Georgia, this twenty-two year old Dowling was captivated by the fourteen-year old daughter of Wayne pioneer Benjamin Davis. Beautiful Honor Eliza Davis had good reason to be attracted by this slender South Carolinian; for he had already earned the bars of a Lieutenant in the 335th Militia. (They married April 14, 1822, in her home county. She had been born in Wayne, December 18, 1807, and would live past her seventy-third birthday. Their burial place of this couple is unknown thought they are probably in "Dowling Cemetery" on the banks of the Satilla, east of Hickox, Georgia. This branch of the family donated the land."

"Five years after Jabez L married Eliza the "History of Ware County" tells us that he was one of the first four men in that huge old county to win lottery land. For it was about this time that the three younger sons of Jabez and the elder Dowling settled in Ware County, in an area that was made part of Pierce in 1858; later this service earned Eliza a pension. Jabez Lazarus died on March 4, 1865."

p10

"Darling Dowling, the fifth and last son of Jabez, just was old enough to remember his father's absence from the Salkehatchie area during the War of 1812. For this lad had been born in 1801. His Christian name might be a clue to mother Rebecca's maiden name; for Darling is a well-known surname in the Atlantic Coastal area."

"After the previously mentioned emigration from South Carolina, Darling married Benjamin Davis's daughter, Sophie; they married August 17, 1824, in Wayne County, Georgia/ Father, Jabez performed the ceremony. The reader will remember that Sophie's sister married Darling's brother.  In the 1830's Darling joined several other of the Dowling boys of that area in the militia units organized to handle the emergency created by nearby Indian uprisings. He and brother, James II and nephew David were paid at Waresboro on April 11, 1839, for such service. Also, wife Sophie later was awarded land for this."

"In 1841 Darling and Sophie joined High Bluff Primitive Baptist Church. Ten years later the last of their twelve children had been born. Few of the children had married by then; much meat was needed. . .  Father Darling was pursuing a deer one day, when glancing back he failed to see a low-hanging limb! He struck it with such force that it killed him instantly. His tombstone may be seen among the giant old cedar-trees at High Bluff in the western edge of present-day Brantley County, Georgia. Sophie lived almost forty years after this event; she died about the age of eighty in 1890, and is buried beside Mr. Dowling. She had been born in Georgia though father Benjamin and Mrs Davis were South Carolinians."

If Honor Elizabeth Davis was born in Wayne Co GA then someone needs to produce a record of Benjamin and Elizabeth going that far south from where Benjamin and Elizabeth resided in Jefferson Co GA, and why she would be alone away from family to marry in Wayne Co GA 08 Apr 1822.

I have her as their daughter but now I am questioning that? Benjamin Davis was in Rev War in Chatham Co NC and married Elizabeth Daniel in Chatham Co NC 15 Jan 1786 and according to the Rev War pension file, a letter written by George Daniel states they moved in 1786 to Burke Co GA now Jefferson Co (where Benjamin died in 1816) as he (George) turned 3 yrs old that September and he recalls Benjamin and Elizabeth's first child Nancy was born that same winter.

Early History of Southeast Alabama by W L Andrews Vol 2 p 8 among the Alabama US Surname Files 1702-1981 re: Dowling Family p 8 Young Jabez Lazarus (Dowling) was still single when he left his Salkehatchee birthplace. Her father is likely this Benjamin Davis as Benjamin Davis of Jefferson Co was deceased 1816
