Mary was born about 1859. She is the daughter of Baxter Davis and Amy Lewis. ^[1]

When Polly was born February 7 1859 at likely Pulaski Kentucky her parents had been married about 5 years, and on the first Census Polly was named Mary A Davis, she was the third known child born to the couple. Shortly after Mary / Polly was born her father co-purchased 140 acres on the South Fork of the Cumberland River.

When the July 16, 1860 Census was taken Mary Pollys father Baxter was shown as 26 years, her mother was named as Amy and declared to be 20 years, siblings to Mary were Robert 5, Elisabeth 3 and little Mary A Davis 1 year. Father, Baxter was a Farmer and likely were renting as no Real Estate Value was declared in 1860 but a Personal Estate value of $300.oo was itemized.

In 1870 Mary Polly's parents were continuing to reside at the Pulaski, Kentucky property and both parents were shown to be the same age ... 35 years. The parents claimed 8 children, looked like two sets of twins in there, but no sign of Mary Polly ... the children named went from Elizabeth age 13 to Rachel whose age is written in a confused overwritten line ... is she 5 or is she 8 and is Rachel actually Mary Polly?

When the time comes back around for the 1880 U.S. Federal Census on June 15, Mary Polly is married to William Henry Nichols and she shows in the Census as P.A. Nickles, age 20. Mary Polly or once named Rachel, or Polly Ann with William Nichols have one child; Florida Jane, age 2 and Polly's mother Lucinda Davis, age 50, live with the young couple. Lucinda states she is married ... spouse is named on a separate Census.

June 14, 1900 at Roseville, Logan, Arkansas, Polly and Henry, at Roseville, Logan Arkansas. Polly A age 41, she and Henry have been married 23 years, birthed 10 children, 6 living today. Daughters Florida and Josephine now married with their own children. Polly and Henry still have five children in their home: Mary 18, Willie 14, Fredie 8, Ruthey 3 and Homer born May this year. Their home is full and daughter Josie and her Turrentine family reside next door.

April 19, 1910 Polly and William Henry Nichols live on the property they'd purchased some years past. Daughter Ruthie 13 and son Homer age 10 live in the home and daughter Josephine and her Turrentine family continue to live next door with her 5 children, while Polly and Henry's and daughter Florida and her Bennett family live a few doors away ... many grand children to come and go from Polly and William Henry's home ... all is well today

Pollys' daughter Josephine Nichols died 18 February 1914. Her cause of death is unknown to her descendants ... child birth? Influenza?

January 28, 1920 at Roseville, Logan Co., Arkansas, Polly, husband William H and their 19 year old son Homer live on their farm ... children not so close these days. Where in 1910 daughter Josephine and family had lived next door, by 1920 Josie's widower spouse had moved into town. The family was living further distances from on another. Polly's daughter Florida lived nearby; Polly's daughter Mary had moved to Los Angeles, California; Pollys daughter Ruth and her Shropshire family had moved to Okfuskee, Oklahoma, Polly's sons William and Homer lived nearby in Arkansas

23 Jun 1922 at Los Angeles California Pollys daughter Mary Lucinda, wife to Robert Cook passed. Mary Lucinda Nichols family with Robert Cook had moved them from Arkansas before 1910. When Mary passed her youngest child was 6 years old.

April 25, 1930 at Okemah, Okfuskee, Oklahoma is where Polly, age 71 and William Henry, also 71 years, now reside. The couple own their home, valued at $225.oo. Polly and Williams daughter Ruth Rachel and her Shropshire family lived at Okfuskee. Ruth and Opie had five children living with them this year. Pollys' daughter; Ruth Rachel died on December 6, 1930, believed to be sepsis due to not expelling all the placenta when her last child was born. This is a family story and not part of an autopsy. It is believed to be true, but not confirmed.

May 2, 1936 Mary, Polly Ann Davis Nichols passed. Likely at Okfuskee Oklahoma, interred at Carpenter Cemetery, Ozark, Franklin Co., Arkansas. Aged about 76 years. Find A Grave Memorial# 35377520. Pollys' husband of about 58 years, William Henry Nichols died at Oklahoma and is buried there.
