Biography

m1: Anna Bush

In 1851 the family lived in Warsaw, Hancock Co, IL. After their daughter Mary Katherine PEARCE died circa 1851, Henry and Anna took their grandchildren Henry Davis and Amanda Alvira PEARCE to raise. According to the Memoirs of their grandson Henry Davis Pierce, Anna died in Warsaw about 1855 and she and her daughter Mary are buried in the same cemetery but at this time the cemetery is unknown.

Henry and his children left Illinois by wagon train and and arrived in Grayson County, TX, in May 1956. The family settled in the Ferguson Post Office area. Henry was a Baptist Minister and was referred to as Elder Henry Davis. He also farmed and was a beekeeper.

Henry Davis died on 23 Mar 1870 at the age 73 and is buried in the Hall Cemetery, Howe, Grayson County, TX. There are two tombstones in the cemetery. One put there by his wife which says he was born May 15, 1797 and one put there by his daughter Elizabeth who gives his birthdate as November 19, 1797.

In his will he left everything to his second wife E. M. and son Henry Ulysses. His son M. H. Davis and daughter Elizabeth Jackson and her husband William R. Jackson contested the will. The judge made E. M. executrix of the will.
