Funeral services for Katharine Davis Mounger, an avid reader who helped organize Greenwood Little Theatre, will be at 4 p.m. today at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity.
Mrs. Mounger, 87, died of heart failure Saturday, July 14, at Golden Age Nursing Home.
She was instrumental in organizing Greenwood Little Theatre and served on its founding board as its first secretary. She helped organize a Great Books Society and served as president of Greenwood Leflore Public Library's board.
She also was active in the Community Concert Association and the Greenwood Garden Club.
In addition she was an early member of the Leflore County Replublican Party and an active alumna of Delta Gamma sorority.
Mrs. Mounger was born in Starkville and later moved to Oxford. She was a magna cume laude graduate of the University of Mississippi and received a master's degree in social work from Tulane University. She later worked in that field in New Orleans until her marriage to Dr. Samuel Gwin Mounger. After a brief residence in Yazoo City, she moved with her husband to Greenwood.
At the Episcopal Church of the Nativity, she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, served as president of the ECW and was active in St. Hilda's Guild. She also held several offices in the Episcopal Diocese of Miss.
She commissioned a painting of the nativity by Leny Wacht that now hangs in the church.
Mrs. Mounger is survived by two sons, Whitman Davis Mounger of Greenwood and Samuel Gwin Mounger Jr. of Columbia, MO; one daughter, Kay Mounger JOnes of Hampshire, Tenn.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m today at the church.
Pallbearers will be Dalton McBee Jr., Charles M. Powers, W.M. Whittington III, Allen Wood Jr., E.M. Meek Jr., Dr. Michael H. Carter Jr., and George R. Mahoney.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. John Fair Lucas Jr. and Walter C. Moses Jr.

Not sure where you got this, but Edward Brantley, son of Phillip was not born in 1704. He was born abt 1675. Lots of Edwards; you must have gotten them mixed up.
