According to the History of Wilkinson County, Thomas R. Davis was of English descent and came from North Carolina to Georgia in the early years of the 19th century. He married Nancy Owens, of Scot-Irish descent. They settled on a farm near Hopewell Church in Burke County and reared a family of 12 children - 3 daughters and 9 sons. In about 1858, he moved his family (except for three sons) from Burke County to Mitchell County
A different version, an oral history from Jack Dodson give to Bob Taylor (Ancestry.com) Thomas R Davis was born in Moore Co., N.C. in 1789, the son of a Revolutionary solder,Ralph Davis 1745-1811 and Jane (Dye)Davis 1747-died before 1811.Both parents died in Moore Co.,N.C.. Ralph Davis left a will naming sons Thomas and Buckner and son-in-law,Nathan Maples (husband of daughter,Temperance) Temperance married Nathan Maples(her 1st cousin) in about 1810,and moved to Decatur Co., Ga. in the 1820'S and became huge landowners. having land on both sides of the Flint River, They later moved into Baker County (now Mitchell County). Thomas R Davis and eight of his twelve children migrated to Mitchell Co., Ga in about 1861. One of his sons, Thomas Ralph Davis came to Baker Co. in about 1858, and worked as a plantation overseer until 1861 when he moved to his Father's plantation near Hopeful (Mitchell Co., Ga.) Three sons migrated to Wilkinson Co., Ga. The migration path of Thomas R Davis was from Moore Co., N.C.to Burke Co. Ga. and later to Mitchell Co., Ga. He moved to Burke Co., Ga. about 1821, married Nancy Owen. All of the children were born while they lived in Burke Co. Nancy Owen Davis died about 1858 in Burke Co. .

Thomas died on 17 May 1872 and was buried in Hopeful Baptist Church Cemetery, Camilla, Mitchell County, Georgia, United States.[2]

We see David in Israel's Household in 1870. Widowed Israel Maples went on to marry Margaret Hamilton, the former Mrs Augustus Jones at the time they married. Israel's first cousin, David B Davis, married Elizabeth Jones, daughter of Augustus and Margaret.
