Biography

Archie Eugene Davis was born on September 18, 1888, in Breed, Oconto County, Wisconsin.[1][2][3]

He is listed as "Archie" in only one census, the 1900 Federal census. That one shows him at age 11, living with Frank and Ella in Underhill Township, Oconto County, Wisconsin, with siblings David, age 20, Floyd, age 15, Maud, age 14, Nora, age 9, Frank, age 8, DeForest, age 4, and baby Maurice, age 3 months.[4] Sadly, Maurice would die later that year.[5]

In 1905 "Eugene" is listed as a "Farm Laborer" living on his father's farm. The town is now called Breed, in Oconto County, Wisconsin.[6]

In the 1910 census, Eugene is still unmarried, living on the family farm in Breed, Oconto County, Wisconsin. No occupation is listed in this census.[7]

Eugene registered for the World War I draft on June 5, 1917, but there is no record of him having served. By then he had married married Mildred Crocker,[2] and by 1920 the couple lived in Neuald, Forest County, Wisconsin, with their daughter Beatrice, age 2, and son Lyle J, age 1 month.[8] Eugene's occupation is listed as "Labor" and the industry as "Lumberman."

The 1930 census shows Eugene and Mildred living in Ross, Forest County, Wisconsin, with a daughter Leone, age 15, Beatrice, now age 12, Lyle, now age 10, and a daughter Florence, age 8. Eugene is listed as a "Laborer," "Logging Woods."[9] It also shows Eugene and Mildred's "ages at first marriage" as 28 and 26, respectively, which would put their marriage sometime in early 1917. This makes sense,, given that they were already married when Eugene registered for the World War I draft on June 5, 1917.[2]

The 1940 census shows Eugene and Midred still in the home they own in Ross, Forest, Wisconsin. Eugene and Lyle are now both working as "Laborers" in a "Log Camp."[10]

Eugene Archie Davis not only registered for the World War I draft, but, like many of his generation, on April 15, 1942, at age 54, he registered for the WWII draft, as well. Of course, he was never called upon to serve.

City directories from 1952 - 1955 show Eugene and Mildred living in Kenosha County, Wisconsin.[11][12][13][14]

Archie Eugene Davis passed away on February 12, 1971.[3] He is buried at [| Sunset Ridge Memorial Park] in Somers, Kenosha County, Wisconsin.
